The Hike
For the ascent, we decided to take the summer Lions Head route. We wanted to bypass the crowds heading up Tuckerman Ravine and were looking for a slightly more technical challenge. On our way up, we ran into a few backcountry skiers. I was just impressed that there was even any snow left on the mountain, but apparently for the Fourth of July there was a pretty large event.
As we traversed the ridge toward the summit, we spotted them in Left Gully. The snow patches were tiny, maybe only enough to make a turn or two. I respected the hustle though since they wanted to ski as much as possible which I completely understood. We descended via Tuckerman Ravine for a change of scenery. Even though we had pretty ideal weather, I could see how the route could be bad in even slightly poor weather. The rocks were pretty slick, especially on no-fall areas, which could be bad if there was any rain.
